“Safe Passage” & Rawstock V

After a successful two screenings at the Seattle International Film Festival, my third film “Safe Passage” will screen July 25th at Rawstock V. Our little film that could is meeting the little festival that could.

Now in its fifth year, Rawstock continues to support the local film community by programming local films. They’re also getting larger. They’re still at ACT theater but now their screenings are taking place in the larger Falls Theater.

This Rawstock features new films from Calvin Lee Reader, David Lowery and myself.

Safe Passage posters

My good friend Seth McOmber is also a self-employed graphic designer. I asked him to come up with some possible designs for the “Safe Passage” poster. Here are three of his best ideas:

“Gimme Music, Gimme Shelter” invited back to SF.

I met Josh Lowman when GMGS screened at the SF Indie Fest. Funny and somehow memorable, the film stayed with Josh and when we was looking for more comedic shorts to round out his self-produced mini-festival, “Shorts and Rock” he thought of me.

If you’re in San Fran around June 19th at the Rickshaw Stop, please stop by.

“Safe Passage” World Premier

This year the Seattle International Film Festival asked myself and two other Seattle-based narrative filmmakers to be a part of the Fly Filmmaking Challenge.

Also known as the Fly Films, the challenge supplies the filmmakers with in-kind donations of goods and services that also includes a script, a genre, 7 rolls of film and a promise to screen twice during the festival as well as a kick-ass, all-access pass for screenings, festival events, beer, wine, women and a shortcut to the front of the line!

In short, enough impetus and stimulus to make a movie. And so I did. Read the rest of this entry »

Hitting the boards at the Seattle Repetory Theater

There’s people that do this for a living and they’re much more clever than I am, so here’s their words:

“In this darkly compelling recent Broadway hit, four Irish friends gather for a card game with devilishly high stakes.”

Still not hooked? Perhaps, the longer version:

“In a forgotten corner of Northern Dublin, four old friends gather to face the holidays the only way they know how—with a bottle of whiskey and a deck of cards. But when a mysterious stranger arrives and wants a piece of the action, the men find themselves playing a game with devilishly high stakes. Steeped in Irish myth, this recent Broadway hit dubbed “Best New Play of the Year” (Wall Street Journal) is darkly funny and surprisingly uplifting.

Under the direction of Tony-Award-nominee Wilson Milam (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), the Seattle Rep production features local favorites Hans Altwies, Frank Corrado, Sean G. Griffin, Russell Hodgkinson and Shawn Telford.”

The show begins previewing Thursday February 26 and continues previewing that week Friday, Saturday, as well as Monday and Tuesday the following week.

TO BE CLEAR: THE SHOW OPENS WEDNESDAY MARCH 4th AND WILL RUN REGULARLY TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY UNTIL MARCH 28TH.

All shows are 7:30PM

The show closes March 28th

Rush tickets purchased one hour before curtain are $20. Under 25? $10 (Cheaper than a movie, twice as many laughs and someone gets naked, I won’t say who.)

Some of my best ideas are born in bars. Such is the case for the Doritos Superbowl contest this year. The only problem was that our idea was too good. Or maybe too long. Chopping it down to the required :30 proved to be quite difficult, so we recut it… as a two-minute short.

Now on Facebook!!!

Friends, I hate to say it but I’ve done it again. I’ve got involved with another social networking site. This time it’s Facebook.

I blame Fran. She’s been bugging me to get with it. So I did. Now, it seems, I’m hardly ever over here managing, updating, obsessing over the official Shawn Telford dot com site. Facebook does it all… or so it seems. And everyone appears to be doing it.

So, if you’re looking around for me, you can always find me dinking around on Facebook.

Look for the one with me on the cover!

Sunlight in 1-Reel

My second film, “A Night in the Sunlight,” will play the 1 Reel Film Festival, a part of Bumbershoot, Seattle’s Music and Arts Festival which annually draws over 150,000 people to the grounds of the Seattle Center to celebrate the arts. Founded in 1995, 1 Reel is a Bumbershoot tradition, and is one of the nation’s best-attended short format festivals in the US, drawing over 20,000 filmgoers, filmmakers and industry members each year.

Yee-haw!

Going to Washougal. Twice.

Good news, both of my short films, “Gimme Music, Gimme Shelter” and “A Night in the Sunlight” are headed to southern Washington for the fist ever Washougal International Film Festival.

Also known as the “crossroads to discovery,” Washougal is a quiet community on the banks of the Columbia, just a short drive from Portland, Oregon; this year is also the town’s 100th anniversary. The festival itself will take place between August 20-23. The screenings will be right in the center of old town, in the new Washougal Town Center — both inside and outside in the courtyard. Any overflow will go to Washougal High School.

Winning filmmakers will be honored with the Mayor’s Medal and prizes in respective categories at the closing night awards ceremony. Films will be valued on merits such as creativity, ingenuity, story, attention to detail, and the ability to challenge and inspire audiences.

More information on the Washougal International Film Festival here.

Be well. Do good work. Keep in touch.

Cheers
